New Delhi, August 31
The Central Government has appointed Dharmendra, a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as the new chief secretary of the Delhi government. He will assume office on September 1, taking over from Naresh Kumar, a 1987-batch IAS officer, whose extended tenure ends on August 31.
According to an order issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday, “With the approval of the Competent Authority, Sh. Dharmendra, IAS (AGMUT:1989) is hereby transferred from Arunachal Pradesh to Delhi and posted as Chief Secretary, GNCTD w.e.f. 01.09.2024 or with effect from the date of joining, whichever is later.”
Dharmendra, a civil engineer by training, has been serving as the chief secretary of Arunachal Pradesh since April 2022. His predecessor, Naresh Kumar, has had a two-year tenure marked by frequent clashes with the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi. Kumar’s term, which began in April 2022, was extended twice by the centre government before concluding on August 31, 2024.
