New Delhi, August 9
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday said the Supreme Court granting bail to Manish Sisodia is a “tight slap” on the “dictatorship” of the BJP-led Centre, but rued that the relief came after a year’s delay, and hoped its other jailed leaders, including supremo Arvind Kejriwal, would also get justice.
Earlier in the day, the news triggered jubilant celebrations at the party headquarters, where leaders hailed the ruling as a triumph of truth. Drums echoed through the air and sweets were distributed in a vibrant display of joy.
“Today truth has won. In the end, only truth wins,” said a post by “Team Kejriwal” on the Delhi Chief Minister’s official handle on X. Kejriwal is in Tihar Jail in the same case. In a post on X, his wife Sunita Kejriwal said, “Bhagwan ke ghar der hai andher nahee”, emphasising there is always justice in God’s house.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said Sisodia’s bail was a victory of truth.
Senior leaders of the party, including MP Sanjay Singh, minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and MLA Durgesh Pathak, reached Sisodia’s house and congratulated his family.
Singh said the BJP-led Central Government repeatedly attempted to harass AAP, but the party has achieved a significant victory.
“This decision is a firm slap in the face of the Centre’s dictatorship. The BJP even seems ready to resort to extreme measures against him. The BJP is a party driven by hatred and contempt, with a dictatorial mindset and behaviour,” he asserted.
AAP’s Delhi state convener Gopal Rai said Sisodia had set a remarkable example of education nationwide, yet the dictatorial government kept him imprisoned for 17 months without evidence in a “fabricated case”.
Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision, noting that it sets a crucial precedent for the judiciary across the country. “From the Supreme Court’s remarks on personal liberty, all high courts and lower courts should recognise that bail is a right, while imprisonment should be the exception,” he said. He criticised the prolonged investigation by agencies and their failure to complete the trial, accusing them of adding thousands of pages and presenting hundreds of false witnesses. Bharadwaj added that with Sisodia’s regular bail, he will resume his work normally.
Meanwhile, AAP Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, Raghav Chadha, posted on X, “The entire nation celebrates today as the hero of Delhi’s education revolution, Manish Sisodia, is granted bail. Manish bhai was imprisoned for 530 days for dreaming of a brighter future for the underprivileged. Dear children, your Manish uncle is coming back.”
