Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Monday slammed the BJP-led Central Government over its handling of law and order in the Capital. He demanded the Central Government present a report card on its performance in maintaining public safety over the last 10 years, particularly in Delhi, where law enforcement is directly under the Union Home Ministry.

“At a time when Delhi’s markets are packed with people, citizens are afraid to step out of their homes, wondering if a gang war will break out, if gunfire will start, or if a bomb will go off somewhere,” he said, referring to the recent blast in Rohini near a CRPF school. He accused the BJP of failing to maintain law and order in Delhi and questioned how the Central Government could protect the nation’s borders when it was struggling to manage a city.

“There’s gunfire everywhere — at sweet shops, at car showrooms, inside hotels, on the streets and at banquet halls,” he added. He pointed to a recent murder in Greater Kailash, where a gym owner was shot and a robbery in Rohini, where criminals posing as couriers looted Rs 2 crore from an elderly couple.

“Where is the Home Minister? Delhi’s law and order is in a shambles under the BJP’s rule, with gangsters running amok, and they still ask for more power over Delhi,” he remarked.

Beyond crime, Bharadwaj also targeted the BJP’s handling of Delhi’s traffic. “Delhi’s traffic is completely unmanageable. It takes more than an hour to travel short distances due to poor traffic management,” he added.

“They’ll place barricades every 3 km and public transportation will come to a standstill as cars and buses inch through those barricades,” he added.
