Rain lashed parts of the Capital on Friday, with the weather department predicting more showers as the sky remained overcast.

Central and southern areas experienced rainfall, and the city was placed under a yellow alert due to adverse weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) latest forecast predicted “light to moderate rainfall at most places in Delhi”.

Late-night showers on Thursday caused waterlogging and traffic jams across the city. Safdarjung recorded 29.6 mm of rainfall, while the Ridge station recorded 69.4 mm, Delhi University 56.5 mm, Lodhi Road 28.2 mm, Aya Nagar 19.5 mm and Palam 18 mm, according to the IMD’s data for the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Friday.

The downpour led to severe traffic disruptions. The Delhi Traffic Police posted updates advising commuters to avoid affected areas.

“Traffic is affected on NH-48 in the carriageway from Dhaula Kuan towards Mahipalpur due to waterlogging,” the Delhi Traffic Police in a post on X said.

Other major roads impacted included Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, MB Road, Outer Ring Road and GTK Road, it added.
