Over 5K faculty positions vacant in central varsities: MoE tells RS

As many as 5,182 teaching posts are vacant in Central Universities across the country. The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar in response to a written question in the Upper House.\B
\B“As on 31.10.2024, there are 5,182 vacant teaching posts in Central Universities. Occurring of vacancies and filling thereof is a continuous process. The vacancies arise due to retirement, resignation and additional requirements on account of enhanced students’ strength,” Majumdar stated in her response.
He informed that the Ministry of Education had directed all the central higher education institutions to fill up the vacancies in Mission Mode.
In another response, the minister said up to October 29, 2024, a total number of 25,777 posts have been filled up including 15,139 faculty positions, in mission mode by the Central Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs).
A total number of 25,257 vacancies have been filled up by Central Universities, Indian Institute of Technologies, Indian Institute of Information Technology, National Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Management, Indian Institute of Science, and Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research collectively, out of which 15,047 are faculty positions, including 1,869 (SC), 739 (ST) and 3,089 (OBC), the minister said.
