The Delhi Police’s Special Cell arrested an active member of the Hashim Baba-Rashid Cablewala gang in connection with a double murder case that occurred on the eve of Diwali in Farsh Bazar, police officials said on Monday.

Wasim, (35), a resident of Maujpur was apprehended after a brief shootout in the Jyoti Nagar area. The police recovered a sophisticated pistol with four live cartridges, an empty cartridge, and a stolen motorcycle.

According to police officials, the murders were carried out under the direction of fugitive gangster Rashid Cablewala.

DCP (Special Cell), Amit Kaushik said that the team had been tasked with apprehending active members of criminal gangs operating in the area. “Specific intelligence about Wasim’s movements was received by the team, who learned that the suspect would be visiting Jyoti Nagar area while carrying a weapon with the intention of committing a crime.” Acting on this information, the team laid a trap. “When Wasim was signaled to stop by the police, he tried to flee, but his motorcycle skid. Despite repeated warnings, he fired upon the police, with one bullet striking the bulletproof jacket of a police officer,” the DCP added.

In response police fired three rounds in self-defence injuring Wasim in both legs. He was immediately apprehended and hospitalised.
