New Delhi, December 6

Just Rights for Children (JRC), an alliance of over 250 NGOs operating across 416 districts in India, led the global conversation on online child sexual abuse at the WeProtect Global Summit 2024 held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The summit, the largest global movement dedicated to ending child sexual exploitation online, acknowledged India’s ground-breaking efforts to combat child pornography, following a landmark Supreme Court ruling in September 2024.

The JRC was invited to showcase "the new narrative and lessons from India" in tackling child sexual exploitation in the digital age. This recognition follows the pivotal role JRC played in securing a Supreme Court ruling that criminalised not only the production of child pornography but also its downloading and storage. The petition filed by JRC led to this historic decision, which significantly strengthened India’s child protection laws.

Delivering a powerful keynote address at the summit, Bhuwan Ribhu, founder of JRC, stressed the need for a coordinated global response to the borderless crime of online child sexual abuse. "Online sexual abuse of children is a borderless crime, and it requires a borderless response," Ribhu said. "We need an international database with a globally binding instrument to share data and information about sex offenders across borders. These criminals are organized and coordinated, so our response must be equally organised."
