Nanded Act: SAD (Delhi) seeks time from Shinde
New Delhi, February 12
A delegation of the Delhi unit of the Sukhbir Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today met officials of the Maharashtra Government in Delhi and gave a memorandum to them, seeking time to meet state Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The chief of the Delhi unit Paramjit Singh Sarna, accompanied by Manjit Singh GK, sought an appointment with Shinde, saying the Sikh community “was deeply disappointed regarding recent amendments to the Nanded Sikh Gurdwara Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abhchal Nagar Sahib Act, 1956”.
The implications of these amendments are significant, not only for the Sikh community but also for the broader principles of religious autonomy and governance, the Akali team said.
“Our community feels deeply troubled by the decision to increase the quota of government-nominated members while reducing the representation of Sikh organisations in the board of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded,” they said.
