A 12-year-old student died under mysterious circumstances at a private school in South-West Delhi on Tuesday morning.

The victim’s family members alleged foul play behind his death. Initial reports from the police suggest that the child might have died because of a seizure. However, the boy’s family alleged foul play, claiming he had an altercation with a classmate.

The child has been identified as Prince, a Class VI student and a resident of Kudumpur Pahari in Vasant Vihar. He was declared brought dead at Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj. The police received information about the incident from the hospital at 10:15 am.

“Upon inspection, no visible injuries were found on the body. However, some foam-like substance was oozing from his mouth,” DCP (South West), Surendra Chaudhary said.

“Doctors initially suggested that the boy might have suffered from a convulsion-related condition. However, inquest proceedings are underway, and school staff and students are being questioned.” he said.

Prince’s father, Sagar, a sewer line worker in Vasant Vihar Society, refuted the possibility of a pre-existing medical condition. “My son was completely healthy and had no history of fits. He would even play football and was a good player, participating in inter-school tournaments and winning several medals,” he said.

Sagar also expressed doubts over the police and school’s explanations.

“Some students told us that Prince had a fight with a classmate during which he collapsed. School teachers then rushed him to a hospital,” he claimed.

According to Sagar, Prince was first taken to Holy Angels Hospital and later referred to Fortis Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He recounted receiving a call from the school at 9:45 am.

“They said my son was hurt. When I reached the hospital, he was already gone,” he said.

Prince’s uncle, Vineet, raised questions over the school’s responsibility during the incident.

Prince, younger of two siblings, is survived by his elder brother, Priyanshu, who is in Class VIII in another private school. “Necessary action will be taken after the inquest proceedings and interrogation are complete,” the DCP said.
