MP to address deteriorating condition of Old Delhi markets

Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal on Thursday announced a crucial meeting would be held with senior officials from various departments on October 21 to address the deteriorating condition of Old Delhi’s markets.

The meeting aims to tackle issues such as sanitation, traffic congestion, encroachments and security concerns.

Khandelwal criticised the AAP government. He said, “The government has abandoned the markets. Old Delhi is grappling with numerous problems. Sanitation has collapsed, roads are clogged with encroachments and security arrangements are insufficient.”

Old Delhi, known for its bustling markets such as Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazaar and Chawri Bazaar, is currently facing significant challenges. Encroachments disrupt traders and customers and sanitation continue to deteriorate.

Khandelwal has invited officials from the Municipal Corporation, police, Water Board, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, Electricity and the PWD. “The goal is to create a comprehensive plan that ensures improvements before Diwali,” he explained.

Khandelwal emphasised the importance of markets, stating, “These markets are the backbone of our economy, and it is the responsibility of the government to address their deteriorating condition. This meeting will be a critical step towards rectifying these issues and ensuring better facilities for both traders and customers during the festive season.”
