MCD workers get Diwali bonus and salaries before month's end
Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced that for the first time, MCD workers would get their salaries before the end of the month along with Diwali bonus.
He said that this is happening for the first time in the history of the MCD that workers are getting their salaries before the month ends.
"Earlier the workers were mostly agitating over salary issues for months, we are heading the MCD for the last two years and salary gets credited on the first week of every month," Kejriwal told reporters.
"Many congratulations to all the Safai Karamcharis of Delhi Municipal Corporation. This is the first time in 18 years that they are getting their salary before the end of the month. Earlier their salary used to remain withheld for 7-8 months but now they get it before time," he wrote in a post on X.
"This time on the occasion of Diwali, MCD has sent the salary along with Diwali bonus to all the Safai Karamcharis before the end of the month so that everyone can celebrate Diwali happily with their family. I wish all Safai Karamcharis and their families a very Happy Diwali." he added.
On Tuesday, MCD Mayor Shelly Oberoi had announced Rs 60.51 crore bonus to workers. MCD will provide civic employees with a Non-Productivity Linked Bonus (NPLB), she said.
The Diwali bonus for the fiscal year 2023-24 is open to all Group C employees and Group B Non-Gazetted employees, with eligibility extended to regular employees who have completed a minimum qualifying service of six months. Eligible employees are entitled to a bonus of Rs. 6,908 on a pro-rata basis. Additionally, daily wage employees who have worked for at least 240 days across the last three financial years are eligible for a bonus of Rs. 1,108.
MCD has also introduced a customised Bonus Disbursal Application designed to streamline the process. The application directly credits the bonus amount to employees’ bank accounts, reducing delays and minimising the need for manual intervention by the Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO), she further added.
