The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has dismissed two Education Department officials and terminated the services of two others for their alleged involvement in irregularities in distributing scholarships meant for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC) students in 2012-13.

The civic body has also taken action against two employees of the department, dismissing one and terminating the services of the other, according to an official statement. Additionally, a school inspector has been demoted by three levels for his role in the financial mismanagement.

The case, which relates to the MCD’s Central Zone, involved the misuse of scholarship funds through false identities and unauthorised deposits into separate accounts, leading to significant financial losses for the corporation. An investigation revealed that a school inspector and a principal were directly involved in the misappropriation of funds.

The inquiry also found lapses in oversight by senior officials who failed to discharge their duties responsibly. A school attendant was found negligent in maintaining the cash book and cheque records.

One school inspector was found guilty of retaining funds meant for student uniforms. As a result, he has been demoted to level 6 of the pay scale and will now receive a reduced honorarium.

In its statement, the MCD reiterated its commitment to rooting out corruption. “We have taken strict action over irregularities in the scholarship distribution for SC, ST and OBC students in the Education Department. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will not tolerate any form of corruption,” the statement read.

The corporation emphasised that such actions reflect its zero-tolerance approach towards corruption and serve as a warning to all employees to maintain integrity in their work.
