Mayor inspects sanitation issues in East Patel Nagar
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi conducted a thorough inspection of Ward 86 on Thursday. Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Kumar, officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and senior personnel from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), the Mayor closely examined local issues concerning garbage removal, waste management, and water leakage.
Ward 86, part of the Karol Bagh Zone, is under Dr. Oberoi’s area of representation. The Mayor immediately directed MCD officials to intensify cleaning efforts and explore micro-level waste management solutions, especially in Baljeet Nagar.
“Though the cleanliness in this ward is relatively good, there is still room for improvement, particularly in garbage disposal. We need a more targeted approach to ensure a permanent solution to the waste management problem in this area,” Dr Oberoi said.
During her visit to Gali No. 2 in Baljeet Nagar, the Mayor discovered a persistent water leakage issue due to faults in the DJB’s water pipeline, which had led to waterlogging. She discussed the issue on-site with both DJB and MCD officials, urging them to act swiftly.
“I have directed the DJB to prioritize fixing the water pipeline leakages. MCD and DJB officials must work together to ensure proper drainage and prevent such water accumulation in the future,” she added.
The Mayor interacted with local residents, who voiced concerns primarily related to garbage management, sewage, and water supply.
However, she noted that apart from these, there were no major issues affecting the area. Both the MCD and DJB assured the Mayor that they are already addressing the concerns and will resolve them swiftly. “Our AAP government, under the leadership of CM Arvind Kejriwal, is committed to providing the best civic amenities to the citizens. Regular inspections ensure that work is being done effectively on the ground,” he said.
