Man shot dead over petty dispute in Mangolpuri area
A 19-year-old man was shot dead following a minor altercation with a group of boys in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area late on Monday night, police officials said on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Pankaj, a resident of Mangolpuri.
According to the police, Pankaj had an argument with three persons over some matter. One of the suspects pulled out a firearm and shot at Pankaj before fleeing the spot.
DCP (outer) Sachin Sharma said: “A medico-legal case information was received at the Mangolpuri police station around 4 am on Tuesday regarding a person being declared brought dead.”
A case had been registered under relevant sections and further investigations were on in this regard. They were rounding up suspicious persons to know about the whereabouts of the suspects, a police officer said. Several teams had been formed to trace the suspects.
The incident has sparked a war of words between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal said in a post on X: “On Monday night, a man was shot dead in broad daylight in Mangolpuri. The day before yesterday, three murders took place in the city. All Delhiites must unite and raise their voice against crime. The most important thing is the safety of yourself and your family.”
In another post, Kejriwal said: “People are being murdered openly in Delhi, and the BJP is saying crime is not an issue in the Capital. Bullets are being fired openly on the streets, traders are getting ransom calls and the BJP is saying that crime is not an issue in Delhi. If you don’t accept the problem, then how will you find a solution?”
