A month after a blast near the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) School in Prashant Vihar, a low-intensity explosion occurred outside a sweets shop near PVR Prashant Vihar in Rohini on Thursday, leaving one person with minor injuries, the police said.

The Delhi Police received a call at 11.47 am reporting the explosion outside the Bansi Wala sweets shop. Videos circulating online showed thick smoke rising from the site.

Upon receiving the call, the local police, forensic teams, fire tenders and an ambulance were dispatched to the spot.

“A very mild-intensity explosion occurred near the wall of a small park. One individual suffered minor abrasions and was immediately taken to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, where he was discharged after first aid,” a senior police official said.

The blast halted the screening of a movie midway causing confusion among viewers in the theatre at Fun City Mall. A 9.55 am screening of ‘Bhul Bhulaiyaa 3’ was disrupted briefly due to the explosion at a sweets shop, 100 m away from the PVR.

Guards of the PVR rushed to the theatre following a loud noise from the blast to check if everything was fine inside of the theatre.

The area was subsequently cordoned off, and teams from the National Security Guard (NSG) and the Delhi Police Special Cell arrived for further investigation.

A senior police official said white powder was recovered from the site, similar to the substance found during the October 20 explosion near the CRPF School boundary wall. However, no arrests were made in the earlier case, and the investigation remained inconclusive. However, police sources said it was too early to link both incidents.

The recent blast has intensified political tensions ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. Former Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to ensure the safety of Delhi residents.

“The people of Delhi are already living in fear due to rising cases of murder, extortion and loot. Now a blast has occurred as well. Everyone has the right to live peacefully and safely in Delhi. Shah ji, please wake up and fulfil your responsibility,” Kejriwal posted on X.

Chief Minister Atishi also highlighted the recurrence of such incidents. “Just two lanes away from this blast, a similar incident occurred about a month ago near the CRPF School. This is the second blast in Delhi in the past one and a half months,” she said.

The AAP accused the BJP and the Union Home Minister of failing to maintain law and order in the Capital. In a post on X, the party said, “While Kejriwal was holding a press conference on BJP’s failure to maintain law and order, Delhi faced another blast in Prashant Vihar. Shah’s failure in maintaining law and order in Delhi couldn’t be more evident.”

The AAP leaders demanded immediate and decisive action to restore safety in the city.
