Land acquisition for Aerocity-Tughlakabad Corridor approved

Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena on Tuesday approved the land acquisition, measuring 1,688 sq m, at Khanpur village in South Delhi for the completion of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad Corridor of Metro Phase-IV, lying unresolved since 2020, Raj Niwas officials said.

Saxena also approved the transfer of land, measuring 1,600 sq m, belonging to the Education Department, for a year to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for a rent of Rs 13,37,135.

“This decision will facilitate the construction of interchange station on the RK Ashram-Majlis Park and Indraprastha-Inderlok corridors of Delhi Metro,” an official said.

This vacant land will be used for construction activities for development of the underground station at the Idgah Road, to be named as Nabi Karim Metro Station.

The underground station will be constructed below the piece of land being transferred to the DMRC and once the construction is completed, it will be handed back to the Education Department.

The land to be acquired at Khanpur had been pending for more than four years, with the DMRC having made a request for acquisition way back on July 2020, another official said.

“Once the acquisition takes place now, this critical section of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad Metro Corridor will be completed in a year,” it added.

The construction, in turn, will help people commute fast from densely populated colonies of South East Delhi to the airport and other locations on the line. It will also address the issue of perpetual traffic jams on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, they said.

Similarly, the Nabi Karim interchange station on Idgah Road will help seamless Metro travel for people commuting on the RK Ashram-Majlis Park and Indraprastha-Inderlok corridors.
