L-G reviews Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan projects

Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena on Saturday took stock of the ongoing works under the Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan (DGA), a project aimed at improving infrastructure and civic amenities in the Capital’s villages, Raj Niwas officials said.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which funds and partially implements the initiative, along with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department, presented updates on the project’s progress.

Launched in March by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the project has a financial allocation of over Rs 960 crore.

Officials told the L-G that the campaign is progressing steadily, with a total of 642 projects currently underway across various villages.

“Out of these, 111 projects have already been completed, while 296 are nearing completion. Another 118 projects are in the initial stages of implementation, and 117 are in the pre-sanctioning phase,” officials said.

The initiatives span a wide range of projects, including construction of parks, gymnasiums, roads, sewers, water bodies and cremation grounds, alongside the enhancement of other essential civic amenities.

Officials said, “These projects were identified through extensive on-ground consultations with village residents.” District Magistrates, in multiple rounds, stayed in these villages and conducted camps to understand the specific needs of the locals, they added.

Another project under the DGA includes the installation of piped gas connections to 93 of the 200 targeted villages. Officials said the remaining 107 villages would receive connections by March 2025, with 43 villages expected to be connected by December this year. “It is important to note that these gas connections, facilitated by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), are being carried out independently of the DGA’s Rs 960 crore budget allocation,” officials added.
