L-G okays extension of services of 767 contractual paramedical staff

Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena on Tuesday approved the extension of services of 767 contractual paramedical staff and 188 ex-servicemen foot constables, Raj Niwas officials said. These extensions are set to cover another year and up to July 2025, respectively.

The 767 paramedical staff, who serve across various hospitals, medical institutions and the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) in Delhi, will see their contracts extended from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.

These employees fill roles such as assistant (OT), lab assistant, radiographer, technician (OT), lab technician, pharmacist, assistant dietician, physiotherapist and X-Ray technician.

“The L-G has directed the Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department to notify the vacant posts against which these contractual employees are being hired,” said an official from the L-G’s office.

The official also mentioned that the recruitment process for 1,055 paramedical posts in various categories is already underway by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB).

In addition, the L-G has approved the extension of engagement for 188 ex-servicemen foot constables, who have been deployed on a contractual basis in the Transport Department, GNCT of Delhi. This extension is valid until July 31, 2025.

These foot constables perform essential duties, including field duty with enforcement teams, issuing challans, managing duties at headquarters, impounding pits and the control room of the Transport Department, which operates 24/7.

“The Transport Department has informed that a requisition for filling 296 vacant posts of foot constables has already been sent to DSSSB for recruitment,” added the official.

“About 18,000 posts have been filled with regular appointments over the last two years, and another 20,000 are in the process of being filled,” the official noted.
