Kejriwal’s departure from Delhi certain in 2025, says BJP leader
New Delhi, August 26
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva launched a searing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday, accusing the party of political desperation and disconnection from the public. Sachdeva’s remarks come in the wake of AAP’s launch of the ‘Aapka MLA Aapke Dwar’ campaign, which he dismissed as a gimmick aimed at masking the party’s declining influence.
“AAP has been out of touch with the public for the last ten years,” Sachdeva said. “Now, they are forced to resort to gimmicks like ‘Aapka MLA Aapke Dwar’ in an attempt to reconnect with the masses. But the reality is that even this won’t help them recover the ground they’ve lost.”
Sachdeva pointed to the results of the recent Lok Sabha elections as an evidence of AAP’s waning popularity in Delhi. “In 52 Assembly constituencies, including the nine reserved for Scheduled Castes, the public delivered a severe defeat to AAP. According to our reliable sources, a review meeting held by AAP leaders after the elections identified the wave against their MLAs as the second main reason for their candidates’ defeat, right after the corruption within the party leadership,” he claimed.
Highlighting the challenges faced by AAP in the elections, Sachdeva noted that even sitting MLAs faced significant losses. “The party fielded three MLAs—Kuldeep Kumar, Sahiram Pehlwan, and Somnath Bharti—in the Lok Sabha elections. All three were defeated, and two of them, Kuldeep Kumar and Somnath Bharti, even lost their Assembly seats. Sahiram Pehlwan narrowly managed to retain his seat,” he added.
Sachdeva further alleged that some AAP MLAs who had managed to stay connected with the public were now distancing themselves from the party due to alleged corruption within the leadership. “AAP is a desperate and disheartened party. Their MLAs have created such a bad situation that even if the party changes its candidates, the results won’t change. The public has seen through them,” he said.
In a bold prediction, the BJP leader said AAP’s days in Delhi were numbered. “No matter what campaign AAP launches, Arvind Kejriwal’s departure from Delhi is certain in January 2025,” he declared.
