Former Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday joined the BJP in the presence of top saffron brass led by union minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

While inducting Gahlot into the BJP, Khattar said "this is the turning point in Delhi politics".

Khattar said Gahlot had joined the BJP after comparing internal systems and policies of the two parties, and seeing the spirit of service of the BJP and PM Narendra Modi to the nation.

Khattar said that Gahlot being Najafgarh MLA for two terms is closely linked to Haryana as Najafgarh may geographically be in Delhi but for all other purposes it is part of Haryana.

Gahlot, meanwhile, rubbished the AAP allegations that he had joined the BJP under duress and said he had never acted in his entire life under force.

"I have willingly joined the BJP looking at PM Modi's policies and after getting disillusioned by AAP which came into existence to serve the people of Delhi but completely compromised on its values. It is sad that the party put personal ambitions before the people of Delhi and spent the entire time in conflict with the Centre at the cost of our people," Gahlot said, adding that he will discharge whatever responsibility the BJP gives him.

Gahlot had quit the AAP yesterday.
