Judiciary saved me, says Satyendar Jain
After being released from jail, former Delhi Health Minister and senior AAP leader Satyendar Jain paid his respects at a Jain temple in Saraswati Vihar on Saturday.
Upon his release, Jain met AAP National Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. In his first public statement post his release, Jain expressed his gratitude towards the judiciary’s role, saying, “If not for judiciary, the BJP would have hanged me. They tried to break our party, but failed.”“We knew jail was a possibility when we started the campaign to change the country’s politics for good with Kejriwal. They tried to break the AAP by imprisoning our leaders, but failed,” he added.
Jain further said that the BJP employed harsh tactics to demoralise him, including solitary confinement, which he described as “torturous”. He said, “They kept me in a barrack for months, a place where even notorious criminals aren’t held for more than 15 days.”
“They’ve imprisoned many of our leaders. What is it about the AAP that makes them want to destroy us? What bothers them is not that Kejriwal entered politics, but that he didn’t become like them,” Jain added.
He also addressed the controversy surrounding his alleged “lavish” treatment in jail. Responding to claims about the CCTV footage from Tihar Jail, Jain clarified, “They claimed I was having lavish meals, but all I had was seasonal fruit and vegetables. For an entire year, I didn’t eat anything. They said I drank bottled water, but I bought it from the canteen, which is available to everyone.”
Jain also addressed accusations regarding a viral video that showed him receiving a massage, claiming it was part of his prescribed physiotherapy treatment. “If the BJP is making these claims, why didn’t they release the video earlier? They only started airing it during the Gujarat elections,” he said, accusing the BJP of playing “dirty politics”.
Jain further said that his arrest was part of a broader strategy to demoralise educated and well-intentioned individuals from entering politics.
