In Brief: Heroin worth Rs 2.5 cr seized
New Delhi: woman drug peddler and seized 402 gm heroin with an estimated market value of Rs 2.5 crore, officials said on Monday. The operation was conducted on December 7 and 8 based on a tip off, they said. The police launched targeted raids and apprehended a 41-year-old woman from Narela with 102 gm of heroin in her possession, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Nidhin Valsan said. She was previously arrested in 2023 along with her husband for a similar offense and is currently out on bail, he said. Another accused, Jilani (30), hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was held in Bawana with 300 grams of heroin, the officer said. Jilani has a criminal record, including cases under the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act and Cow Slaughter Prevention Act, Valsan said. PTI
68th National School Sports
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi inaugurated the 68th National School Sports on Monday, emphasising the role of sports in fostering unity and patriotism and said that sports brought us together. The Directorate of Education, Sports Branch of Delhi is hosting the 68th National School Sports 2024-25 in 11 different sports. The event has drawn participation from 43 units, including states and union territories. The games are divided into three phases, with the first phase commencing on Monday and set to run over a month. Our ‘Mission Excellence' programme offers up to Rs 16 lakh in financial aid to young athletes, Atishi said. The participants will take part in 11 different sports, including swimming, cricket, basketball, tennis, gatka, handball, boxing and wrestling. PTI
