A theft investigation in Hauz Khas took a shocking turn, uncovering a murder mystery after the Delhi Police arrested a part-time driver for allegedly killing a 50-year-old maid servant. The case, originally filed as theft on September 26, was filed after the complainant, a resident of Panchsheel Park, reported that her maid had stolen Rs 43,000 and vanished.

The breakthrough came when the police investigated the CCTV footage and interrogated people in the house.

Among those questioned was Jitender, the part-time driver hired by the complainant. Initially, Jitender denied any involvement, but the CCTV surveillance and manual intelligence led the police to suspect his involvement.

During inquiry, police said the part-time driver only worked three days a week to take the complainant’s 95-year-old aunt to a senior citizens’ club.

The police suspected Jitender after the police learnt that he had left for the club in the afternoon on the day of questioning. “During sustained interrogation, Jitender confessed to having killed the maid with the help of an accomplice and dumping her body in Noida,” said DCP South, Ankit Chauhan.

Further investigation based on Jitender’s confession led to the discovery of the maid’s body, which was found in a sack. The police also recovered the weapon used in the murder and a gear wire used for strangulation. Jitender, a 50-year-old resident of Khanpur village, Delhi, had been employed by the complainant for over two years.

He revealed that his relationship with the deceased had deteriorated, which ultimately led to the murder. “He attempted to dispose of the body outside Delhi to avoid detection in Noida,” the DCP added. The police have added relevant sections relating to murder and destruction of evidence to the case, and Jitender has been arrested.

The post-mortem is being conducted by the Noida police.

The victim, a divorcee, who had worked for the complainant for 33 years, belonged to Jharkhand. Police are investigating the involvement of any other suspects.
