Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora and senior officials on Friday in light of the farmers’ call to march to Delhi on December 6.

The meeting came just days after the city police busted an international gang of cocaine suppliers and arrested 10 persons. Shah is learnt to have emphasised on ensuring protection to women, children and senior citizens as top priority areas for the police.

The meeting, said sources, came amid a spate of extortion-related shootings over the last few months.

According to the officials, Shah held a meeting to review the city’s law and order situation. The meeting was attended, among others, by Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka.

The Home Minister is said to have reiterated the need for the force to act decisively, ensuring a secure environment that reflected the government’s commitment to public safety in the Capital. He also underlined the Centre’s “zero tolerance” policy towards crime, stating that no lapses in maintaining law and order would be tolerated.
