A 35-year-old gym owner was shot dead by unidentified assailants on a bike in Greater Kailash 1 late Thursday night. The victim, Nadir Shah from CR Park, was attacked outside his gym, with at least seven rounds fired, according to the police.

The Delhi Police’s Special Cell detained six persons in connection with the case on Friday. It is suspected that members of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang are involved. Sources said two of the detained were shooters.

“We received information about a firing incident in GK 1 at 10.57 pm, with one person reported injured and rushed to Max Hospital,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan. “We found several bullet projectiles, empty cartridges and blood on the pavement,” he added.

The police reported that the assailants arrived on a two-wheeler, fired at Shah and then fled the scene. Shah suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital by friends, but he was declared dead on arrival.

Police sources noted that Shah had six to seven criminal cases against him, including extortion, attempted murder and dacoity. He had been running the gym for over a year and was known to be involved with gangs as a financier.

Shortly after the incident, a social media post purportedly from an account associated with gangster Rohit Godara claimed responsibility for the shooting.

The post alleged that the attack was ordered by jailed criminal Sameer Baba due to Shah’s interference in their business. It warned that anyone supporting their rivals or causing trouble would face a similar fate. The post also mentioned Bishnoi’s associates, including “Rohit Godara, Goldy Brar, Gogi gang and Kala Rana gang”.

The police suspect a case of rivalry, but did not rule out the possibility of a gang war.

“I never imagined something like this could happen so close to the police station. We’ve always felt safe here because the Delhi Police are active in resolving issues,” said a neighbour of the building where the gym is located.
