The issue of paddy stubble burning has emerged as a significant concern due to its detrimental effects on air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR). The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has been actively engaging with different stakeholders.

Under the powers granted by the CAQM Act of 2021, the commission has authorised Deputy Commissioners, District Collectors, and District Magistrates in Punjab, Haryana, NCR areas of Rajasthan, UP and Delhi to file complaints or prosecute officials ( like nodal and supervisory officers) who fail to enforce regulations against stubble burning. The CAQM urged dist administrations and state govts to take greater responsibility and maintain strict oversight to prevent stubble burning.
