Four nabbed for robbing, opening fire at sugar trader
The Delhi Police have arrested four robbers who looted a sugar trader and opened fire at him when he resisted near Rohtak Road in Nangloi. The victim, Saurabh Gupta, sustained a bullet injury, but is currently recovering at a hospital.
The incident occurred on September 1 when Gupta was walking towards his vehicle, which was parked opposite a petrol pump. He was suddenly accosted by two masked assailants who attempted to snatch his bag, which contained a laptop and Rs 8-10 lakh in cash.
“When Saurabh resisted, one of the assailants shot at him, hitting his hip bone,” a police official said. The assailants then fled the scene on a motorcycle, aided by an accomplice who was waiting nearby.
Following the incident, an FIR was registered at the Nangloi police station. The police reviewed over 1,100 CCTV recordings and gathered local intelligence to identify and track down the accused.
After four days, the police located the accused in Kirari. Raids were conducted at multiple locations, leading to the arrest of two prime accused —Kuldeep (27), alias Hypo, and Aryan (23), alias Preet.
During their interrogation, the accused revealed that they, along with their aides Shivam Pandey (18), alias Chitty, and Tirath (21), planned and executed the robbery. The police subsequently arrested Pandey and Tirath, recovering the weapon used in the crime — a country-made pistol — along with Rs 5.27 lakh in cash from various locations.
“The accused confessed that they committed the robbery to repay loans and fulfil expenses of their girlfriends,” an official said.
During further interrogation, the suspects admitted to using a stolen motorcycle for committing the crime. They also confessed to spending a significant portion of the stolen money during a trip to Manikaran and Kasol.
The four were sent to four-day police remand.
