Disbursed Rs 144 crore for teachers’ salaries in 4 years: DSGMC chief
New Delhi, March 1
Taking up the issue of salaries for teachers at Guru Harkrishan Public Schools (GHPS) in the Capital, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Harmeet Singh Kalka said on Friday that Rs 144 crore had been disbursed over the past four years. He confirmed that the salaries of the entire staff had been paid up to January 2024.
Kalka accused former DSGMC chiefs Paramjit Singh Sarna and Manjit Singh GK of neglecting the matter.
Kalka and DSGMC general secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon said the Delhi High Court had held the committee responsible for contempt for various periods, including 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2016, when Sarna and GK were in power. They had pledged to fulfil the dues of teachers as per the Sixth Pay Commission, but failed to do so, alleged Kalka.
He added the current DSGMC has cleared approximately Rs 84 crore in dues for the staff of GHPS over the past two years. He said dues had also been settled during the tenure of Manjinder Singh Sirsa as DSGMC president from 2020 to 2021, totalling Rs 144 crore over the span of four years.
Kalka and Kahlon questioned Sarna regarding the collection of funds for the Sixth Pay Commission dues between 2006 and 2013 from the community and students’ parents. They questioned why the collected money was not released to the staff of Guru Harkrishan Public Schools. Kalka also alleged that Sarna had unnecessarily recruited staff in schools, resulting in redundancy.
