Delhi Congress launches outreach programme before Assembly poll
Devender Yadav, president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, launched the party’s Manifesto Committee outreach programme, “Dilliwalon Aao — Dilli Chalo,” on Monday evening outside the Palika Bazar main gate in Connaught Place.
The initiative aims to gather public suggestions to craft a manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections, “focusing on restoring Delhi to its former glory during the Congress’ 15-year rule”.
Yadav emphasised the importance of public participation in shaping the manifesto, stating, “We will take the suggestions of every resident of Delhi before finalising our manifesto. The Congress party aims to address the challenges that have plagued the Capital and restore its status as one of the best cities in the world.”
He criticised the past decade, noting that Delhi residents had shifted their focus from soap operas to the ongoing political drama between the AAP and the BJP, which he claimed had failed to resolve the city’s issues. “People are tired of the blame game between the AAP and BJP. They want solutions,” Yadav added.
The event included the announcement of various sub-committees dedicated to key areas such as health, education, electricity, water supply and women’s development. Former DPCC president Anil Kumar introduced the members and coordinators of the Manifesto Committee, emphasising the diverse range of issues that the party intended to address.
To facilitate public engagement, Yadav unveiled a dedicated website, dpcc.info, and mobile number, 8860812345, where residents can submit their suggestions via call or WhatsApp. Additionally, a manifesto van will travel through Delhi to collect inputs from the public. “This outreach is crucial for rebuilding trust between the Congress party and the people of Delhi,” Yadav said.
The Congress leader criticised the AAP for its perceived misgovernance, particularly in handling issues like waterlogging, air pollution and crime.
He remarked, “People did not vote the AAP to power for 40 innocent people to die in monsoon waterlogging or to suffer from water shortages in summer.”
Takong aim at former CM Arvind Kejriwal, Yadav said, “Kejriwal, after getting bail, is going around telling people he will set everything right. But where is the action?” Highlighting the lack of security for women in the Capital, Yadav expressed his disappointment over the AAP government’s failure to implement promised safety measures. “Delhi has now become the ‘rape capital of the country,” with a significant percentage of sexual assault cases occurring daily. This government has betrayed the trust of women in Delhi,” he said.
