Delhi BJP leaders have criticised Chief Minister Atishi for allegedly using inflated water bills as a political tool to woo voters in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The BJP claimed that if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government genuinely wants to waive water bills, it should provide relief before the upcoming elections rather than using it as an electoral promise.

The controversy erupted after a video surfaced in which Atishi acknowledged issues with inflated water bills while addressing residents of Govindpuri.

In the video, Atishi is heard saying: “I am aware that residents of Govindpuri are getting inflated water bills. Arvind Kejriwal has promised that if you bring AAP back to power, all water bills will be waived. Nobody will have to pay water bills.”

Reacting to Atishi’s remarks, West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat wrote on X: “First, Arvind Kejriwal sent inflated water bills to Delhi residents. Now, Chief Minister Atishi is openly threatening people saying vote for Kejriwal, only then bills will be waived. If you truly intend to waive the bills, why not do it before the elections? People understand this deceit and will not fall for their tricks anymore.”

BJP National Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa also criticised Atishi in a post on X, questioning the integrity of the promise.

Sirsa wrote: “Kejriwal promised free water, so why are Delhiites receiving inflated bills? Now, as Chief Minister, you’re promising to waive bills only if Kejriwal wins? Why not waive the bills right now? For the past 10 years, Delhi has been paying the price for Kejriwal’s false promises and corruption. People won’t be misled again.”

As Delhi prepares for the Assembly elections, the issue of water bills is expected to become a contentious point of debate, with the BJP vowing to expose what it calls the “hollow promises” of AAP.
