Dedicate yourself to Assembly poll, Arvind Kejriwal tells party workers
Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Friday urged party workers to dedicate themselves to the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, emphasising unity, strength and resilience.
In a video message to party workers and supporters, Kejriwal described AAP as a “breath of fresh air” in Indian politics. The national capital is set to go to polls in February.
‘AAP fresh breeze in Indian politics’
The AAP is a fresh breeze in Indian politics that talks about health and education, roads, etc. The AAP has shown what a committed, honest government can accomplish for the people. — Arvind Kejriwal, AAP supremo
“For the first time in 75 years, the public is hearing discussions on issues that matter most — education, healthcare, electricity, water and infrastructure. The AAP has shown what a committed, honest government can accomplish for the people,” he said.
He encouraged supporters from both within and outside Delhi to devote time to the campaign. “For the Delhi elections, if possible, take leave from work and dedicate a few months to this election. Those from outside Delhi can arrange to stay with friends or relatives here, and those in Delhi can also take time off to help. If you can’t give full time, contribute a few hours daily or weekly — even a few hours a day from home is valuable. We’ll assign tasks based on availability,” Kejriwal said.
Reflecting on AAP’s decade-long journey, Kejriwal highlighted its impact on Delhi’s political landscape. The AAP formed its first government in 2013, which lasted only 45 days, but achieved a massive victory in 2015 with 67 of 70 seats, followed by another strong win in 2020 with 63 seats.
However, the upcoming election poses new challenges. The BJP, fresh from a significant victory in Haryana, is gearing up for Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The AAP, meanwhile, faces controversies, with the Congress unlikely to form an alliance as it focuses on reviving its own presence in Delhi.
Kejriwal acknowledged the party’s struggles, noting, “The past two years have been the most difficult period we have endured. But as they say, God gives challenges only to His most beloved devotees to test them.”
The AAP supremo further said in the upcoming elections, the opposition would do everything in their power to defeat the party, but urged supporters not to let them succeed. “We cannot let them win. For the first time in 75 years of Independence, people have seen the politics of work take centre stage. They have seen what an honest government can achieve. However, there is still much work to be done,” he said.
He encouraged party workers to find strength in their faith during difficult times. “Whenever you feel weak, discouraged, or angry, silently chant the name of Lord Ram. There is great power in the name of Lord Ram; you will feel calm instantly. You can also invoke the name of your own deity, whether it’s Guru Nanak, Allah, or anyone you believe in.”
“I am confident that victory will be ours,” Kejriwal said.
Following his video message to party workers, the party officially launched the ‘#PhirLayengeKejriwal’ campaign through its social media platforms.
