Cops crack down on drivers using mobile phones
The use of mobile phones while driving has become a prevalent traffic violation in Gurugram, according to data released by the Gurugram Traffic Police. In October alone, over 400 challans were issued for this offence.
A senior traffic police official stated that a special campaign was conducted throughout October to address this growing issue. As part of the initiative, multiple police teams carried out checks at various locations across the city. During these drives, 439 vehicle drivers were caught using mobile phones while driving, leading to challans issued under the Motor Vehicles Act. The total fines collected amounted to Rs 21.95 lakh.
From January to October 2024, police data reveals that a total of 3,224 drivers were penalised for the same offence, with fines totalling Rs 1.61 crore.
“The Traffic Police, Gurugram, is actively checking drivers using mobile phones while driving and taking action as per rules to ensure safe, smooth and orderly traffic operations. These special checking campaigns will continue in the future as well,” said Virender Vij, DCP Traffic.
The Gurugram Traffic Police’s crackdown aims to promote safer driving practices and reduce the risk of accidents caused by distracted driving.
