Cops crack Rs 19L gunpoint robbery, nab 4
The Delhi police claimed to have arrested four members of a gang who only targeted individuals involved in hawala transactions and recently robbed a man of Rs 19 lakh at gunpoint in southeast Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin area.
While the three suspects were apprehended by the police easily, the fourth suspect, who was a hardened criminal, was arrested after an encounter in which he sustained bullet injuries on both of his legs.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh said a case was registered at the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station. It was alleged that two persons on a motorcycle were waylaid by two armed motorcycle-borne assailants. They allegedly robbed a bag containing Rs 18,90,500 from the complainants at gunpoint and fled the spot after committing the crime.
Accordingly, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and initiated an investigation.
“The police identified one of the accused as Tarun and apprehended him from Ghaziabad,” the DCP said.
His interrogation led to the arrest of two more accused - Vikas and Shiva - from Mayur Vihar. The fourth accused, identified as Nishu, alias Karan, remained at large.
During investigation, Nishu was tracked down in Sarai Kale Khan area. The police immediately laid a trap and but he tried to escape and fired gunshots at the police party. The police team also retaliated and fired at him, hitting both of his legs.
Nishu was involved in over 25 cases of armed robbery, attempt to murder, arms act, gangster activity, and auto thefts.
