Construction on NH-48: Construction work causes traffic snarls on Delhi-Gurugram Expressway
Traffic moved slowly again on Friday due to ongoing construction work on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, with traffic police managing the flow. However, by the evening, a long traffic jam developed along the stretch between Rajiv Chowk and Mahipalpur.
Road Advisory
- The service lanes on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway will remain closed for a month from September 9
- The police recommend using Mehrauli-Gurugram Road and Dwarka crossings as alternatives
- Commuters are advised to use the Metro or the Airport Express Line for quicker travel
- Those travelling to IGI Airport should start their journey at least an hour earlier than usual
- To avoid traffic jams, consider taking the Dwarka Expressway, MG Road, the Old Gurugram-Delhi Road, or other alternative routes
Congestion was first reported around 11.30 am during rainfall, which worsened the already slow-moving traffic. Several areas of Gurugram also experienced waterlogging, contributing to traffic jams in various parts of the city and further impacting the expressway.
By 6.20 pm, traffic on the expressway had come to a standstill, with vehicles moving at a snail’s pace on both lanes of the main carriageway.
A senior traffic police officer said while construction work on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway caused slow traffic, the police successfully managed the situation. “During the day, there was some congestion at places like the Sirhaul border, Signature Tower and Rajiv Chowk, especially during the rain, but no major traffic jams occurred. However, in the evening, rainfall led to congestion in multiple areas. Traffic on the Delhi-Gurugram route will continue to be affected in the coming days due to the ongoing NHAI work on NH-48. The Gurugram Traffic Police did its best to ensure smooth traffic flow, even during heavy rainfall,” he added.
