Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav on Tuesday lashed out at the AAP government, accusing it of engaging in an annual “ritual” of launching a cleanliness drive just before the festival season to garner easy publicity, while allowing garbage to pile up throughout the year.

Yadav criticised Mayor Shelly Oberoi for not taking proactive steps to maintain cleanliness in the city year-round. “Had the Mayor been prompt in taking steps to keep the city garbage-free throughout the year, Delhi would have been saved from the misery of waterlogging due to clogged drains and choked sewers,” Yadav said at a press briefing.

Joining the chorus of criticism, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor blamed both the Delhi Government and the MCD for the city’s sanitation woes. “The sanitation and sewer systems in Delhi have collapsed due to the inactivity and corruption of the Kejriwal government and the MCD.
