Congress, BJP leaders demand AAP focus on pressing matters

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav on Wednesday urged Chief Minister Atishi to focus on pressing issues of the city during the upcoming two-day Delhi Assembly session, rather than glorifying former CM Arvind Kejriwal. The session, which is set to take place on Thursday and Friday, comes after a year.

Yadav emphasised that the Assembly session should be a platform to address critical problems plaguing the Capital, such as rising air pollution, poor road conditions, desilting of drains and the city’s water shortages. “The Assembly must focus on real problems like improving civic infrastructure, controlling price rise and addressing vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria, which continue to affect the citizens,” he said.

He also urged Atishi to present the 11 pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports, as directed by the L-G, to expose the alleged financial irregularities of the previous government.

Meanwhile, at a press conference on Wednesday, Leader of the Opposition, Vijender Gupta, said the BJP MLAs would push AAP to address the problems faced by Delhi’s 20 million citizens and demand accountability. Gupta criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, calling it a “corrupt party” that had mismanaged Delhi during its decade in power.

Gupta listed several matters that the Opposition planned to raise during the session, including the 50 deaths during the recent monsoon rains. “Not a single minister from the government has spoken up about these tragic deaths,” Gupta said. He also demanded the government present the 11 pending CAG reports, which he claimed had been buried for five years. He also highlighted other pressing concerns, including the severe water shortage in the city, lack of ration cards for 95,000 poor citizens and stalled pension applications for senior citizens. “Delhi’s public transportation is in shambles and the Delhi Jal Board’s debt has ballooned to Rs 73,000 crores,” he remarked.
