Concern over delayed payment to varsity teachers
A group of prominent members from the Indian National Teachers Congress (INTEC) has written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi, expressing concern over the ongoing delay in the payment of remuneration for teachers involved in evaluating examination answer scripts.
The letter, signed by Dr Neelam, Member of the Academic Council, Dr Meghraj, also a Member of the Academic Council, Aman, Member of the Executive Council, Dr Trivendera Chumbak, Joint Secretary of DUTA, and Dr Joginder, member of DUTA's executive, highlights the frustrations of teachers who have not received their due payments for the evaluation work.
According to INTEC, hundreds of teachers who completed the evaluation of the University of Delhi exam papers, including SEC/VAC/AEC papers and practical evaluations at various colleges, are entitled to remuneration as per the university norms. However, many of these educators have reported significant delays in receiving their payments. In some cases, the disbursal of remuneration bills has taken months or, in some instances, years.
"In many cases, teachers are still waiting for their payments despite having completed their work long ago," said Dr Neelam. "This delay in disbursal is causing considerable financial distress among educators, many of whom rely on this income for their livelihood."
INTEC is urging the university to take immediate action to address the issue. The teachers' body has called for the university to establish clear guidelines that ensure the timely disbursal of evaluation-related remuneration, with payments to be made within 15 days of the completion of the evaluation work.
