New Delhi, February 21

On the farmers’ call to reach the national capital, the Delhi Police on Wednesday stepped up its surveillance at the Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur borders, causing significant disruptions in traffic.

To thwart protestors’ entry into the Capital, the police have put up barricades, leading to jams.

As the authorities were enforcing traffic restrictions and diversions, traffic snarls were witnessed at the Delhi-Gurugram border.

The talks remained futile on February 18, where the government offered to procure pulses, maize, and cotton at minimum support prices for five years. The offer was rejected by farmers and they announced to march towards Delhi.

In several online videos, motorists could be seen stranded at several places, including the Rajokri and Sarhol borders. Commuters faced a harrowing time on highways connecting Delhi with Gurugram and Bahadurgarh.

In a bid to maintain law and order, the authorities have fortified key entry points with multi-layer barricades, while bolstering security presence at the border crossings.
