Cite Public Nuisance: Sector 17 residents threaten dharna against Ind candidate
Tired of the alleged nuisance caused by Independent candidate Naveen Goyal, residents of Sector 17-A have threatened to stage a dharna outside his home on Sunday.
Frustrated by the lack of help from local authorities and Goyal’s unresponsiveness, the residents have decided to take strict action, issuing him a warning letter about the planned protest.
“It’s the height of hypocrisy that the man who is the main source of sanitation, traffic, parking and noise crises in his own sector is now talking about changing the civic fate of Gurugram. We’ve all lived with him and can guarantee that voting for Goyal would be the biggest mistake. We, including retired Army officers, have boycotted him. We are facing major issues, but there has been no response to our complaints from the administration. Goyal refuses to listen, and his guards, along with political goons, have been intimidating senior citizens. We will now stage a dharna outside his house,” said Rakesh Jinsi, president of the Resident Welfare Association, Sector 17-A.
Residents also allege that Goyal has virtually taken over the sector park, where his workers sit all day playing cards and even urinating in public. These men reportedly drive away residents who come to visit the park.
According to the warning letter issued by the association, most residents are senior citizens, and Goyal’s actions have a particularly large impact on them. The key issues highlighted include constant traffic congestion caused by commercial vehicles and buses outside his house, littering on sector roads and lanes, the takeover of the park by political workers, aggressive behaviour of his guards and visitors towards residents and indifference to these problems.
“We have repeatedly and politely requested you to address these issues and have given you time until Sunday. Put things in order, or we will start dharna outside your house. As you obstruct our lives, we will stop any non-residential activities being carried out at your place,” the letter reads.
The issue has gained political momentum, with both the Congress and BJP criticising Goyal, stating that a person who can’t manage his own house shouldn’t be trusted with the care of Gurugram.
Goyal was not availbale for comment.
