Weather: Orange alert today

New Delhi: The national capital continues to choke under a blanket of thick smog, with air quality worsening further. On Sunday, Delhi recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 441, marking it as one of the most polluted days in recent weeks. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Monday, warning of very dense fog across Delhi NCR. “Dense to very dense fog is likely over Delhi NCR in the morning hours of November 18,” announced IMD. As of Sunday evening, visibility at Palam was 600 meters, while Safdarjung reported a visibility level of 400 meters. TNS

SC to take up AQI issue today

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will on Monday take up the issue of air pollution in Delhi where air quality index (AQI) has been in ‘severe’ category for several days. Senior advocate Aparajita Singh, who is assisting the top court in the air pollution case as amicus curiae, had on Nov 14 said she had given a notice to the Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM).The Bench had agreed to take up the matter on Monday. “Let the CAQM come and explain,” Singh had told the Bench, which also included Justice Augustine George Masih.TNS
