Briefly: Woman from Odisha raped
A 34-year-old woman was allegedly raped and later dumped in a semi-conscious state here, the police said on Saturday. According to officials, a passerby spotted the woman in Sarai Kale Khan and informed the police around 3.30 am on Friday. A police team reached the spot and took her to AIIMS Trauma Centre. The police said they were suspecting that the woman was sexually assaulted elsewhere and was dumped at Sarai Kale Khan. The woman, a resident of Odisha, left her hometown a year ago and had been staying in Delhi. The victim stayed with another woman in Katwaria Sarai. She was later asked to leave in August due to a dispute and stayed on the streets for several days, they said. The police said she is a graduate and had previously been seen in South East Delhi's Jamroodpur where she had allegedly tried trespassing a house.
Sites for Durga idol immersion
The Delhi Government has identified multiple sites across the city for Durga idol immersion to ensure safe and coordinated process for the devotees. In compliance with environmental regulations, idol immersion in rivers, including the Sahibi River, is strictly prohibited. The government has identified 31 immersion sites across the city. The SDMs will conduct inspections of these sites in collaboration with the departments concerned ensuring that all necessary arrangements are in place, the statement read. The administration has identified artificial ponds at various locations. These ponds will be ready for immersion, ensuring a safe and eco-friendly process. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department has been tasked with ensuring the timely completion of these ponds.
