BJP trying to usurp CM’s residence, says AAP MP
Accusing the BJP of deliberately obstructing the allotment of the official Chief Minister’s residence to Atishi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday alleged that the BJP was trying to usurp the bungalow.
Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that officers, under pressure from the BJP, were intentionally defying protocol and stalling the handover of the CM’s residence.
Singh said the BJP, which has not won an election in Delhi for 27 years, is now resorting to new tactics.
“They’ve contested elections three times, lost three times, and now, since they can’t win elections, they are trying to destroy the AAP and Arvind Kejriwal. They attempted to break our MLAs and leaders, but failed in that too. They have a new desire and wish to take over the Chief Minister’s residence,” he said.
The AAP MP said although Atishi had set up a temporary office at the CM’s residence and even held meetings there, all the staff assigned to the residence was subsequently removed.
Singh told mediapersons that former Chief Minister Kejriwal had vacated the CM residence, contradicting what he described as BJP’s “false propaganda”.
“The AAP’s model doesn’t focus on caste or religion; we talk about education, healthcare, electricity and water — issues that benefit everyone, regardless of caste or religion. That’s why people from all communities hope for AAP’s presence in their areas,” Singh stated.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, welcoming the move, called for a thorough investigation. He emphasised that the Public Works Department (PWD) acted in line with public expectations and urged the department to conduct a videographic survey of the property.
The BJP leader also raised concerns about the recent efforts by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to allocate the bungalow to CM Atishi, without following proper government procedures. He claimed this pointed to a larger cover-up.
“There is something in Sheesh Mahal that Kejriwal clearly wants to hide — not only from the people of Delhi, but also from the law and the PWD,” Sachdeva remarked. He questioned the urgency in allotting the residence, stating, “Why did Atishi attempt to illegally occupy the bungalow by moving her belongings on October 7, without proper allotment?”
Sachdeva pointed out that Atishi has already been allotted a bungalow at 17 AB Mathura Road, a residence previously occupied by former CM Sheila Dikshit during her tenure from 1998 to 2004.
“If Sheila Dikshit could manage with that bungalow, why can’t Atishi?” he questioned. He also noted that Atishi had not stayed at the allotted residence, choosing instead to continue residing in her Kalkaji accommodation.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav slammed Chief Minister Atishi for moving into the controversial 6 Flagstaff Road residence before proper allotment, calling the subsequent sealing by the PWD an “inevitable decision”.
Yadav said, “This residence is notorious, as it was where the liquor scam was plotted, and where Kejriwal’s aides were involved in serious misconduct.”
