BJP supports Delhi LG’s directive on action against illegal immigrants
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed its support for Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) V.K. Saxena's recent directive to the Delhi Police and District Magistrates. The directive calls for increased vigilance and coordination with central agencies to identify and take action against illegal immigrants in the national capital.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, speaking on Saturday, emphasized that the party fully supports the decision. He stressed that the LG's directive is crucial for ensuring the protection and safety of Delhi.
“This move is essential for the security of the city, even though it might pose challenges for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as it could impact their vote bank, particularly among the Rohingya immigrants,” Sachdeva said.
While acknowledging the political ramifications for AAP, the BJP leader argued that the decision prioritizes the safety and well-being of the capital’s residents. “While it may affect the AAP's political interests, it is ultimately in the best interest of Delhi and its people. Such decisions should be welcomed for the greater good of the city,” he added.
Acharya Pramod Krishnam, a prominent BJP figure, also voiced his support for the directive, calling for strict action against illegal immigration and related activities. He underscored the importance of addressing this issue, while also noting that it is part of a much larger national challenge: population control.
“Illegal immigration is not the only concern. The growing population is a serious issue, and if left unchecked, India’s population could reach 200 crore in the future,” Krishnam said. He pointed out that the rapid influx of people into cities like Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Gurugram has stretched resources and disrupted local systems.
“If the Union government does not act now, the situation will worsen. We need strong, national-level decisions to manage the population crisis. This is not just an issue for Delhi or its Chief Minister,” he added.
Krishnam also advocated for the introduction of a Population Control Bill to address the growing population and its implications for the country’s future. “We need regulations that ensure India remains beautiful, diverse, and unified while managing its population growth responsibly,” he said.
LG’s directive amid rising concerns
The LG’s office recently issued a letter to senior officials, including the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner, urging increased vigilance due to a "sudden spurt" in illegal immigrants in Delhi. The letter cited concerns about encroachments on public roads, footpaths, and parks, which have been linked to the growing number of undocumented migrants.
“The Lieutenant Governor has been made aware of reports from social media and other reliable sources indicating a rise in illegal immigrants. These individuals have also been involved in encroachments on public spaces,” the official letter stated.
The letter emphasized the urgency of taking action to address the issue, calling for enhanced coordination with central agencies to ensure swift and decisive steps are taken.
