Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Thursday, holding AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Atishi accountable for 252 preventable deaths in the Capital this year.

Sachdeva alleged that the Kejriwal-led government had failed to act responsibly, leading to fatalities from incidents such as waterlogging, electric shocks, fires and inadequate shelter facilities.

“The Kejriwal government must answer to the people of Delhi for the 34 deaths caused by drowning in waterlogged areas, 16 deaths from electric shocks, seven children’s deaths in a fire at an illegal hospital, 15 deaths in Asha Kiran Home and 180 deaths of homeless individuals due to the cold in January alone,” said Sachdeva.

He accused the government of neglect and incompetence. “These 252 deaths could have been prevented with responsible governance. Instead, the Kejriwal government has completely failed,” he added.

Sachdeva also criticised Kejriwal’s claims of good governance, calling them “hollow publicity stunts”. He said, “Kejriwal loves to ask questions from others, but the people of Delhi have many questions for him. Behind every promise of development lies a façade of corruption and mismanagement.”

Responding to recent comments by Kejriwal about Delhi’s law and order situation, Sachdeva countered by praising the efforts of the Delhi Police. “The majority of crimes in Delhi are solved within 24 to 48 hours, with swift arrests. Yet, Kejriwal tries to deflect attention from his government’s failures by exaggerating crime statistics,” he said.

Sachdeva called for accountability and transparency from the AAP government. “The people of Delhi want answers, not excuses. Who is responsible for these deaths? Instead of taking responsibility, Kejriwal is resorting to false propaganda to mislead citizens,” he remarked.

The BJP president concluded by urging the government to prioritise public welfare over publicity campaigns. “The people of Delhi understand the truth and will not be swayed by Kejriwal’s attempts to shift blame,” he said.
