BJP nominee Bansuri represented ‘anti-national powers’ in court: AAP
New Delhi, March 3
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the BJP for nominating Bansuri Swaraj as a candidate from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat.
AAP’s senior leader and Delhi’s Cabinet Minister Atishi criticised the BJP’s recurring strategy of nominating incompetent candidates who, upon winning by chance, vanish from public view. “This a pattern of the BJP that firstly they give tickets to useless people and after five years they say that it’s not the party but the candidate was wrong and hence we are changing the candidate. They do this to fool people,” she added.
Bansuri swaraj hits back
I would like to ask the AAP why it has fielded a candidate who was beaten up by his own cadre in Rajendra Nagar on Saturday? They have named a candidate who is not liked by his own party members. They can put allegations against us but people will give them a reply in the elections. — Bansuri Swaraj, BJP’s candidate from New Delhi LS seat
Atishi pointed out the replacement of four MPs in Delhi —Parvesh Verma from West Delhi, Ramesh Bidhuri from South Delhi, Dr Harsh Vardhan from Chandni Chowk and Meenakashi Lekhi from New Delhi.
She stated, “Bansuri Swaraj has repeatedly defended fugitive Lalit Modi in court, who fled the country after embezzling lakhs of crores of rupees. From 2012 to 2014, she consistently defended Lalit in various courts, including the high court and the Supreme Court, regarding his passport. He fled with his passport before the Division Bench’s order came, and has not returned since. Notably, Lalit Modi publicly thanked Bansuri Swaraj via tweet for her legal representation.”
“In another instance, when violence erupted in Manipur and two women were stripped and paraded, Bansuri represented the BJP-led Central Government in the Supreme Court. Now, she seeks votes from women in the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.”
She also mentioned Bansuri Swaraj’s defence of the Mayor elected through a rigged election in the Chandigarh Mayoral elections, which the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court denounced as a “murder of democracy”.
“Bansuri owes an apology to the country for these actions,” remarked Atishi.
“Today, on behalf of the people of Delhi, I urge the BJP to reconsider its candidate selection for New Delhi. Failure to do so will show that the BJP as anti-national, anti-women and anti-democratic,” Atishi concluded.
Meanwhile, AAP leader Somnath Bharti, said, “I would like to highlight the incident of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh… The whole nation witnessed the humiliation of our female wrestlers, who have won medals for the country. They had to go through all of that to stand against people like Brij Bhushan, and the BJP still did not take any action against him.” He said it was shocking that the lawyer who defended Brij Bhushan in that case was none other than Bansuri. Atishi added that due to honesty, Dr Harsh Vardhan’s ticket was cancelled.
