BJP MP from South Delhi Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Tuesday accused the Delhi Government of widespread corruption and mismanagement within the Delhi Jal Board. Bidhuri claimed that 58 per cent of the water supplied by the board is unaccounted for, leading to severe water shortages across the city.

“More than half of the water in Delhi is either being stolen or lost due to chaos. The public is left yearning for every drop, receiving only 42 per cent of the water produced,” Bidhuri said. He further alleged that the water was being siphoned off by a tanker mafia operating in collusion with AAP MLAs.

According to Bidhuri, the demand for water in Delhi had reached 1,400 million gallons per day (MGD), yet only 995 MGD was being produced. However, only 421.64 MGD of this water is actually reaching the public. “Where does the rest of the water go? No one has any account. This means 58.28 per cent of the water from the Delhi Jal Board is being wasted daily,” he said.

However, the AAP clarified that there was no wastage of water in the National Capital. It emphasised that 58 per cent of water in Delhi was categorised as non-revenue water, as the government considers water to be a fundamental, free service. “Over 1,700 unauthorised colonies received water connections only after the Kejriwal-led government came to power,” AAP’s statement said, underscoring the efforts made by the current administration to improve water accessibility.
