Chief Minister Atishi, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and senior party leaders participated in Chhath puja celebrations at various ghats on Thursday. Atishi attended the programme in her Kalkaji Assembly constituency. “Today, Chhath is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across Delhi. The Delhi Government has built grand Chhath ghats in every part of the city,” she said.

“Under the guidance of Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Government has been constructing beautiful Chhath ghats across Delhi over the past decade for our Purvanchali brothers and sisters, so they never feel distant from their villages,” she added.

She further said Delhi is home to Purvanchalis and because of them, Chhath has become a festival for all Delhiites.

Kejriwal, in a post on X, said, “I joined the Chhath puja in different parts of Delhi along with my brothers, sisters and mothers from Purvanchal. I offered Arghya to Lord Surya and prayed to Chhathi Maiya for everyone’s healthy, happy and prosperous life. Hail Chhathi Maaiya, Hail Sun God.”

Meanwhile, senior AAP leader Somnath Bharti accused the BJP of creating a hostile environment. “In Delhi, the BJP has opposed Chhath and the Purvanchal community, showing animosity toward Chhath observers,” he said, citing an instance in the Greater Kailash constituency where a BJP representative allegedly tried to prevent Chhath celebrations.

The AAP MLA from Malviya Nagar accused the BJP of preventing devotees from Hauz Khas village from celebrating the festival at a park where it used to be observed for many years.
