Asita Biodiversity Park gets eco-friendly tent cafe
The Capital has received a unique addition to its public green spaces — a tent café at the Delhi Development Authority’s Asita Biodiversity Park in East Delhi. This initiative aligns with Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena’s efforts to enhance amenities in public areas, with the café expected to accommodate 60-70 visitors.
The café, which is a temporary structure and constructed using eco-friendly materials, aims to provide pre-cooked food and beverages. It is scheduled to open before the winter season, coinciding with the planting of over 2,00,000 seasonal flowers, including 6,000 tulips, around the park.
Situated near a water body and riverine grassland, the café has been designed to blend into the ecological framework of the Yamuna floodplains. It features a large metal container serving as a kitchen, and can be swiftly removed during monsoon flooding, allowing it to be re-established once the waters recede.
This tent café follows the successful launches of Café Stone at Mehrauli Archaeological Park and Café Bamboo Oasis at Baansera, both initiatives inspired by public enthusiasm. In response to this positive feedback, the DDA was directed to create a similar facility at Asita while preserving the park’s natural environment.
The park serves as a vital green lung within the Yamuna floodplains, providing a habitat for over 70 species of migratory and resident birds. It has become a popular destination for morning and evening walkers, as well as a picnic spot for families and students.
