AIIMS set to become largest robotic surgery skill training centre: Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav
In the last two years, inpatient beds at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, have increased by more than 30 per cent, while intensive care and operation theatre services have expanded by nearly 40 per cent, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav said on Wednesday.
During his address at the 69th Foundation Day of AIIMS, Jadhav stated, “AIIMS Delhi has achieved remarkable milestones and is determined to reach its goal of becoming one of the top-ranked medical institutions in the world. It now serves as the National Resource Centre for the National Medical College Network (NMCN) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This has enabled linkages with more than 100 medical colleges to enhance undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education.”
Jadhav highlighted that the medical institute has established a Centre of Excellence for the development of artificial intelligence in healthcare. “Created by the Union Health Ministry, this centre is expected to deliver AI-based solutions for the evaluation of chest X-rays, early detection of diabetic retinopathy and identification of skin lesions, among other tools for enhancing national programmes. AIIMS is set to become the largest robotic surgery skill training centre, equipped with two state-of-the-art robotic surgery systems dedicated to the training of surgeons,” Jadhav added.
The AIIMS, Delhi, has also launched the Centre for Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship as a Bio-Incubator under the BIRAC–BioNEST Scheme. The minister said the institute has been entrusted with the responsibility of operationalising the Central Armed Police Forces Institute of Medical Sciences (CAPFIMS) at Maidan Garhi.
AIIMS, New Delhi, has undertaken various IT initiatives and developed a range of in-house software for numerous services. The SANTUSHT portal enables patients to register their grievances online, track their status and provide feedback regarding the resolution.
Jadhav also inaugurated a fire station at AIIMS, which will have a manpower of six personnel. It is the first such station exclusively for any medical institute.
