Address air and water pollution: BJP to L-G
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva called on Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena to convene a high-level all-party meeting to tackle the escalating issues of air and water pollution in the Capital.
With major festivals like Diwali and Chhath Puja approaching in the next three weeks, Sachdeva criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by CM Atishi for its perceived indifference to pollution control.
“The Delhi Government is not taking pollution control seriously, making it imperative for the L-G to intervene in the interest of public health,” Sachdeva stated during a press conference.
He pointed out that the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has nearly doubled in just four days, while Chief Minister Atishi has remained silent. “Her Environment Minister has issued only perfunctory statements,” he added, stressing the urgent need for action.
Sachdeva raised concerns over stubble burning, which significantly contributes to Delhi’s winter pollution. “What action plan has the Atishi government devised with the Punjab Government to prevent stubble burning?” he asked.
He also pointed to the alarming levels of contamination in the Yamuna. He noted that when the river enters Delhi from Haryana, the faecal coliform level is 12,000, which skyrockets to 96,000 by the time it leaves at Okhla.
